Happy birthday … to my long lost friend
Haven’t seen you for a long time …
Five years ago, we met near church gate
Or may be at Santa Cruz
Can’t remember …

Now
Hot afternoon

I remember your old cycle
Old books …
Old bag …
Old pen …

Old days …
Old years …
Old desires …

I remember my long ... childhood mornings
When Ma would feed me breakfast ...
Steamed rice, mustard oil and a bifurcated boiled egg ...
I remember Ma meticulously bisecting that white wonder...

In December, I wouldt visit my Mashi ...
Sitting beside my Ma, I would try to see Kolkata through the Stained glass of Kamrupa Express ...
Mystic fog and ...white wonder ...

I would talk to Ma ... and would eat with her ...
My 'own' meal in Kamrupa Express ...

Ma would look at me and smile ...
I would be busy then with 'wonder' food...

Today I see her again ...
In my idle mornings in this impossible city ...
Waiting for me ...

Brishti writes to me:
'I heard you had been to the sea..
and touched that blue love...
and walked on the salted beach...
I had never been to a sea...
never touched that blue...
never saw any seagull...'

Rilke writes to me...
In the cow-dust hour...
After I come back from paddy field, and
When Ma cooks atap rice
I read his letters with
Divine food...

Every morning, He comes to me
We sit, and talk... ,
Sip tea together...and
Remember our old village in Pakistan...
'We had fourtneen jackfruit trees...
Two ponds...one for fishing, and the other for stories...and
Harishchandra Raja's Puri..,' He says,
We meet everyday
I remember...
In my childhood He used to come through
Our window pane...
I remember the fragrance of 'gurguri hookah'
Red 'tiki' in it
I have a part of Him with me...

My city is too temperate,
Does not allow me dream
...
Long lost friend He is...

Two rains I have...
Two dark ladies...
They live in sea...
Long time no sea...

Writing after a long time. Two months.
Experiencing life in a new way. Success, failure or the mix of both keep hanging on shoulder always...
